Assignment – Lesson 1: Changing Forms of Letters

5 Assignments 4 Marks each The Shape Table: Draw a table with 4 columns (Isolated, Initial, Medial, Final) and fill it for the letters Seen, Sheen, Saad, and Daad. Gap Identification: Write 5 words from a Qaida that contain one of the “Non-connectors” and circle the visual gap. The Dot Challenge: Look at a page of the Quran and identify 10 letters purely by their dots while they are in the medial form. Haa vs. Taa Marbutah: Write down the difference in form between the letter Haa at the end of a word and Taa Marbutah. Transcription: Take 5 isolated letters and “join” them into a nonsensical word to practice their forms.

Assignment – Lesson 3: Dhammah (Paish) – Short “U” Sound

Lesson 3 Assignments (4 Marks Each) Lip-Sync Drill: Record a video or use a mirror to ensure your lips form a perfect “O” shape when pronouncing the Dhaal-Dhammah (ذُ), Raa-Dhammah (رُ), and Zaay-Dhammah (زُ). The Vowel Switch: Take a list of 10 letters and write them with a Fatha, then a Kasrah, then a Dhammah. Say them aloud as you write: Ba-Bi-Bu. Heavy Dhammah Identification: List all 7 heavy letters and write them with a Dhammah. Practice the “echoing” sound. Word Speed Test: Read the following 3-letter combinations without pausing between letters: Khuliqa, Kutiba, Rusulu. Visual Hunt: Find 10 instances of Dhammah in the last 5 verses of Surah An-Nas.

Assignment – Lesson 2: Kasrah (Zair) – Short “e” Sound

Lesson 2 Assignments (4 Marks Each) Alphabet Grid: Write the alphabet and place a Kasrah under every letter. Sound Comparison: Record yourself saying Abbi, Atti, Aththi. Vowel Switch: Take 5 words that have Fatha and change the vowels to Kasrah. Mirror Check: Watch your mouth in the mirror while saying Ee, Bee, Tee to ensure the smile shape. Word Search: Find 5 words in the Quran that contain both a Fatha and a Kasrah.

Assignment – Lesson 1: Fatha (Zabar) – Short “A” Sound

Lesson 1 Assignments (4 Marks Each) Fatha Writing: Write the full alphabet from Alif to Ya and place a Fatha above every letter. Sound Drill: Record yourself reciting the “Heavy” letters with Fatha (Khaa, Saad, Daad, Ghayn, Qaf, Raa, Taa, Zhaa). Word Builder: Take 5 pairs of letters and write them joined together with Fatha on both. Short vs Long: Listen to an audio clip and identify if the speaker is making a “Short” Fatha or stretching it. Visual ID: Find 10 words in the first page of Surah Al-Baqarah that use Fatha vowels.

Assignment – Lesson 2: Makhaarij (Articulation Points of Letters)

Lesson 2 Assignments (4 Marks Each) The Throat Map: Draw a simple diagram of the throat and label the three sections (Deep, Mid, Top) with their corresponding letters. Tongue Placement: Describe in your own words where the tongue goes to produce the letter Qaf vs. the letter Kaf. Mirror Practice: Sit in front of a mirror and recite the “Lip letters” (Maa, Baa, Waw, Faa). Write down which ones involve the lips touching and which do not. Hardest Letter Drill: Attempt to produce the sound of Daad (ض) by touching the side of your tongue to your molars. Record three attempts. Classification: List 5 letters and identify their “Home Area” (e.g., Lips, Tongue, or Throat).

Assignment – Lesson 1: Arabic Alphabets (Recognition & Pronunciation)

Lesson 1 Assignments (4 Marks Each) The Master Script: On a piece of paper, write the full alphabet (28 letters). Beside each, write its name in your native language. Shape Mapping: Take the letter Baa (ب) and draw it in its Initial, Medial, and Final forms. Repeat this for the letter Seen (س). The “Gap” Hunt: Look at 5 Arabic words from a Quran page. Circle any instances where a “Non-connector” letter has created a gap in the middle of a word. Family Sorting: Group the alphabet into “Families” based on their base shapes (e.g., all letters that look like a “Boat”). Audio Identification: Record yourself saying the names of the first 10 letters and upload the audio file for teacher review.

Topic 5 Final Mastery Assignments

The “Al-Aana” Drill: Locate Surah Yunus (Verses 51 and 91). Practice the 6-count stretch in $\text{آلْآنَ}$. Ensure the Lam is clear but not “pressed” like a Shaddah. The Comparison Test: Find one example of every rule in the table above. Record yourself reciting them in sequence. Check: Is your 6-count stretch noticeably longer than your 4-count? Check: Is your 4-count stretch exactly double your 2-count? The Stronger Rule Audit: Find $\text{آمِّينَ}$ (from Surah Al-Ma’idah). It has a Badal (2) and a Lazim (6). Practice stretching it to the stronger value (6). The 20-Verse Mizan Challenge: Recite any 20 verses. Focus purely on stopping at the ends of verses with a consistent 4-count ‘Arid stretch. Do not let a single verse end at 2 or 6. The Syllabus Recap: Explain the difference between Muttasil and Munfasil to a peer using the “Domain” (Same word vs. Different words) logic.

Mastery Assignments for Lesson 5.6

The 6-Step Walk: Recite $\text{وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ}$. Take one physical step for every count of the Madd. Ensure your foot hits the floor exactly 6 times before your tongue hits the Lam. The Stopwatch Audit: Record yourself reciting $\text{الْحَاقَّةُ}$. Use a stopwatch to ensure the stretch lasts at least 4.5 to 5 seconds (which approximates 6 counts at a standard pace). The Shaddah Pressure Test: Practice the word $\text{دَابَّةٍ}$ (Daabbatin). Focus on the “pressure” you apply to the letter Ba after the 6-count stretch. Surah Al-Ghashiyah Scan: Read the Surah and find the word $\text{الطَّامَّةُ}$. Identify the Madd letter and the Shaddah. Practice the 6-count transition. The Lung Reserve Drill: Exhale completely, then take a “3-stage breath” (Belly, Ribs, Chest). Hold the 6-count stretch and see how much air you have left. You should have enough to finish the entire verse comfortably.

Mastery Assignments for Lesson 5.5

The Surah Quraysh Cycle: This Surah is the laboratory for this lesson. Recite it 4 times. Round 1: Stop at every verse with 2 counts. Round 2: Stop with 4 counts. Round 3: Stop with 6 counts. Round 4: Read it without stopping at the ends of verses to feel the 0-count speed. The Formula Audit: Find 5 words in the Quran that have a Fatha followed by a Waw Saakin (e.g., $\text{خَوْف}$, $\text{يَوْم}$). Write down the “Formula” for each. The Ya vs. Waw Glide: Practice the glide in $\text{الصَّيْف}$ (As-Sayf) vs. $\text{الْبَيْت}$ (Al-Bayt). Ensure the tongue movement is fluid and the 4-count duration is identical for both. Mizan Consistency: Practice a verse that has an ‘Arid stretch and a Leen stretch. Ensure the Leen is not longer than the ‘Arid. The Visual Scan: Scan the first page of Surah Al-Baqarah. Circle every Waw or Ya that has a Sukoon on it and is preceded by a Fatha.

Mastery Assignments for Lesson 5.4

The Variable Drill: Take the word $\text{الْعَالَمِينَ}$ (Al-‘Alameen). Recite it three times: first with a 2-count stop, then 4, then 6. Record yourself and ensure the 6-count version is exactly three times as long as the 2-count version. The Surah Al-Fatiha Audit: Recite the entirety of Surah Al-Fatiha. Choose 4 counts for every verse ending. Focus on making sure the “Mizan” is perfect—every ending from Ar-Raheem to Ad-Dalleen must be the same length. The Second-to-Last Hunt: Scan Surah Al-Mulk. Identify 10 words where a Madd letter is the second-to-last letter. Practice stopping on them. The Stronger Rule Test: Find the word $\text{يُشَآءُ}$ at the end of a verse. Practice the “Stronger Formula” by stretching it to a full 6 counts before hitting the Hamza stop. The Metronome Fade: Set a metronome. Practice 6-count endings. Focus on keeping the volume steady for the first 5 counts and letting it naturally taper off on the 6th count as you close the letter.
