Assignment – Lesson 1: Introduction to Noon Sakin & Tanween

Surah Ikhlas Audit: List every instance of Noon Sakin and Tanween found in Surah Al-Ikhlas. Visual Comparison: Find one word where Noon has a Sukoon and one where it is bare. The “Hidden N” Test: Write 5 words ending in Tanween and write out how they sound phonetically. Audio Journal: Record yourself reciting the first 3 verses of Surah Al-Fatiha, highlighting any “N” sounds. Symbol Recognition: Draw the three types of Tanween and label the phonetic sound they represent (AN, IN, UN).

Assignment – Lesson 3: Double Dhamma (The “UN” Sound)

5 Assignments 4 Marks each The Round-to-Flat Drill: Practice saying “UN” 20 times, consciously flattening your lips for the “N.” Consistency Search: Find 10 words with Double Dhamma in Surah Al-Ikhlas and Surah Al-Falaq. The Stop Test: Practice stopping on words ending in Double Dhamma. Ensure the word ends in a clean Sukoon without any extra “bounce” (unless it’s a Qalqalah letter!). The “W” Draw: Practice drawing the two visual styles of Double Dhamma (the double-6 style and the hooked-9 style). Reading Flow: Read a full page of the “Noorani Qaida” focusing specifically on the transition between different Tanween sounds.

Lesson 2: Double Kasra (The “IN” Sound)

5 Assignments 4 Marks each The Jaw Drill: Record yourself saying “Bi-Bin, Ti-Tin, Ji-Jin.” Focus on the sharp transition from the single vowel to the double vowel. Surah Scan: Find 10 words ending in Double Kasra in Surah Al-Fajr. The “Silent” Stop: Practice reading a verse and stopping on a word with Double Kasra. Note how the “IN” sound disappears completely and becomes a Sukoon. Phonetic Mapping: Write 5 words ending in Double Kasra and transcribe them into English phonetics (e.g., Bi-thaminin). Nasal Check: Pinch your nose while saying the “I” part of “IN”—the sound should stay the same. Now release it for the “N” part—the sound should vibrate in your nose.

Lesson 1: Double Fatha (The “AN” Sound)

5 Assignments 4 Marks each Visual Audit: Scan the first 5 verses of Surah Al-Kahf. List every word ending in Double Fatha. The Stopping Drill: Take the list from Assignment 1. Record yourself reading each word as if you are stopping on it (transforming the “AN” into a 2-count “AA”). Exception Hunt: Find 3 words in the Quran that end in Double Fatha but have no supporting Alif (look for Ta-Marbuta). Noon Comparison: Write out 5 words using Tanween symbols, then write them again phonetically using a literal Noon (ن) to visualize the hidden sound. Mouth Positioning: Practice the “AN” sound in front of a mirror. Ensure your mouth opens vertically for the Fatha before the tongue hits the upper gums for the Noon.

Assignment – Lesson 2: Alif Rules (Silent Alif & Alif Al-Wasl)

5 Assignments 4 Marks each Madd Measurement: Record yourself reading 10 words with Alif Madd. Use a metronome to ensure each Alif is exactly two counts long. Silent Alif Hunt: Find 10 instances of “Alif Al-Wiqayah” in Juz Amma. Write them down and cross out the silent Alif to remind yourself not to pronounce it. Connection Challenge: Practice 5 sentences where Alif Al-Wasl appears in the middle. Read them twice: once stopping before the Alif, and once connecting through it. Visual Identification: Circle every Alif in a page of the Quran. Color-code them: Red for Madd, Blue for Silent, and Green for Connecting. Translation Impact: Find one example where omitting an Alif Madd changes the word’s meaning (e.g., from singular to plural or past to present).

Assignment – Lesson 1: Laam Rules (The Heaviness and Lightness)

5 Assignments 4 Marks each The “Allah” Audit: Find 10 verses in Surah Ali ‘Imran containing the Name of Allah. Label each as “Heavy” or “Light” based on the preceding vowel. Solar/Lunar Sorting: Take a list of 20 random nouns from the Quran and categorize them as Solar or Lunar based on their “Al-” prefix behavior. Tongue Placement Journal: Practice saying “Allah” (Heavy) and “Allah” (Light) while looking in a mirror. Describe the physical difference in your tongue’s position. Recitation Comparison: Listen to two different reciters for the same verse. Identify if they correctly transition from a heavy Laam to a light letter following it. Transcription: Write out five phrases where the Laam is Solar, and cross out the Laam visually to train your brain to skip it during reading.

Assignment – Lesson 3: Double Shaddah Practice

5 Assignments 4 Marks each The Nabrr Drill: Recite the end of Surah Al-Fatiha (Walad-daalleen) 20 times, focusing on the 6-count stretch followed by the sharp emphasis on the ‘L’. Double-Press Practice: Find words with two Shaddahs and practice transitioning between the two “press” phases without taking a breath. Speed Drills: Take a Shaddah-heavy verse and recite it at three speeds: Slow (Tahqeeq), Medium (Tadweer), and Fast (Hadr). Breath Extension: Try to recite a long verse containing at least 4 Shaddahs in one single, controlled breath. Final Assessment Preparation: Review all notes from Lessons 1-3 and prepare for the Topic 8 Master Quiz.

Assignment – Lesson 2: Noon & Meem Mushaddad

5 Assignments 4 Marks each The Nasal Isolation Drill: Practice the “Pinch Test” on the words Inna, Anna, Thumma, and Ummi 10 times each. Metronome Mastery: Recite the first five verses of Surah An-Nas with a metronome at 60 BPM. Ensure every Noon Mushaddad lasts exactly two beats. Mining for Gold: Find 10 instances of Meem Mushaddad in Juz Amma and write down the verse numbers. The “Humming” Exercise: Hum a single note for 5 seconds using only your nose, then transition into a Noon Mushaddad to feel the connection. Peer Review: Record yourself reciting Surah Al-Humazah and listen back specifically for the 2-count timing on the Mushaddad letters.

Assignment – Lesson 1: Shaddah Basics

5 Assignments 4 Marks each Deconstruction Chart: Find 20 Mushaddad words in Surah Al-Fatiha and write them out as two separate letters (e.g., $Salla \rightarrow Sal + la$). The 3-Second Anchor: Recite 10 different doubled letters, holding the “press” phase for a full 3 seconds before releasing. This builds muscle memory. Visual Marking: Take a page of the Quran and circle every Shaddah you find. Underline those where the Kasrah is placed under the Shaddah symbol. Recording Comparison: Record yourself saying “Aba” vs “Abba” and “Asa” vs “Assa.” Listen to the physical weight difference. Transcription: Copy 5 verses from Surah Al-Baqarah that contain at least three Shaddahs each.

Assignment – Lesson 2: Qalqalah Letters

5 Assignments 4 Marks each The Qutub Jaddin Chart: Create a hand-drawn chart of the five Qalqalah letters. For each letter, write one example word from the Quran. The Bounce Drill: Say the word “Ab” and imagine a ball hitting the floor and popping back up. Repeat this 20 times for each of the five letters. Surah Al-Ikhlas Analysis: Identify the Qalqalah letters at the end of each verse in Surah Al-Ikhlas and practice the “Major” bounce for each. Level Comparison: Record yourself saying Yaj-alu (Minor bounce) and then Hajj (Major bounce) to practice the difference in intensity. Qalqalah Detective: Scan Surah Al-Falaq and list every word that contains a Qalqalah letter. Note whether it is in the middle (Sughra) or the end (Kubra).
