Assignments

Description.

Assignment – Lesson 1: Flow and Rhythm

Assignments (5 Tasks – 4 Marks Each) Tempo Shift: Record a half-page of Surah Ar-Rahman in Tahqeeq, then Tadweer, and finally Hadr. Rhythm Consistency: Recite a verse with a metronome. Ensure every word hits the beat without stumbling. The “Hadr” Test: Record a fast-paced recitation. Listen back and check if any Qalqalah or Ikhfa were skipped. Flow Analysis: Identify a passage where the transitions between verses feel “clunky.” Practice until the transition is silent and smooth. Speed Accuracy: Recite a verse in Hadr speed, but give every Madd Laazim its full 6 counts. Record the result.

Assignment – Lesson 2: Meaning-Based Recitation

Assignments (5 Tasks – 4 Marks Each) Meaning Analysis: Find 3 verses where stopping in the middle would change the message to something incorrect. Write down the “wrong” meaning vs. the “correct” one. The Emphatic Pause: Choose a verse with a powerful message. Record it twice: once with a standard stop and once with a “Meaning-Based” pause that emphasizes a specific word. Ibtida’ Drill: Practice stopping in a verse where there is no sign. Record yourself resuming from the correct word (usually 1-2 words back) to ensure the meaning is re-established. Case Study: Listen to a recording of a famous Qari (like Al-Husary). Mark three places where they paused for breath and explain why they resumed from the specific word they chose. Subject Separation: Recite a verse that contains a conversation (e.g., in Surah Yusuf). Use pauses to clearly separate the different speakers.

Assignment – Lesson 1: Principles of Pausing

Assignments (5 Tasks – 4 Marks Each) Symbol Hunt: Take one page of the Mushaf (e.g., from Surah Maryam) and circle every stop sign. Categorize them into a table based on their type. The Breathing Test: Record yourself reciting a long verse (like Ayat al-Kursi). Purposefully stop at every Waqf Ja’iz and note how it affects your breath control. Mu‘anaqah Practice: Record the beginning of Surah Al-Baqarah (verse 2). Practice stopping at the first ∴ and then the second ∴ in two separate recordings. The “No-Stop” Challenge: Identify a Waqf Mamnu’ (لا) in the Mushaf. Record yourself reciting through it without pausing, maintaining a steady flow. Technical Stop Drill: Practice stopping on words ending in a Hamzah or a Shaddah. Record these to ensure the “bounce” or “pressure” of the stop is audible.

Assignment – Lesson 2: Madd & Qalqalah Mastery

Assignments (5 Tasks – 4 Marks Each) The 6-Count Endurance: Record yourself reciting the word “Daaallīn.” Use a metronome to ensure the Madd lasts exactly 6 beats without the voice wavering. Qalqalah Level Drill: Record three words representing the three levels (Minor, Medium, Major). Label them in your recording. Madd Consistency Check: Record a passage with both Madd Muttasil and Madd Munfasil. Ensure they are equal in length (e.g., both 4 counts or both 5 counts). The “Bounce” Test: Record the word “Hab-l” (Surah Al-Masad). Ensure the Qalqalah of the Ba does not sound like “Haba-l.” Vocal Power: Recite a verse with Madd Laazim followed immediately by a heavy letter. Focus on the transition of power from the elongation into the heavy articulation.

Assignment – Lesson 1: Complex Noon & Meem Applications

Assignments (5 Tasks – 4 Marks Each) Surah Al-Kahf Hunt: Identify 10 examples of Noon Sakinah or Tanwin. Categorize them and explain why the Ghunnah should be heavy or light for each. The Labial Challenge: Record yourself reciting verses containing Meem Sakinah followed by Waw or Fa. Ensure there is zero “nasal leakage” during the transition. Ghunnah Consistency: Record a passage with at least five Idgham Ma’al Ghunnah instances. Use a timer to ensure every Ghunnah lasts exactly two counts. Ikhfa Texture Drill: Pronounce “Min Qabl” (heavy) vs “Min Dun” (light). Record the difference in the resonance of the Noon. Flow Analysis: Recite a paragraph of Surah Al-Baqarah and mark where you felt a transition between a Noon and the next letter felt “clunky” or interrupted the rhythm.

Assignment – Lesson 3: Error Detection

Assignments (5 Tasks – 4 Marks Each) The “Lahn” Detective: Listen to a 1-minute recording of an intermediate student (provided) and find 3 Lahn Khafi (Hidden Errors). Vowel Perfection: Record the “Basmalah” (Bismillah…) focusing only on the Kasra (the ‘ee’ sound). It must be a sharp ‘ee’, not a ‘bih-smillah’. Madd Consistency: Record three different verses with 4-count Madds. Use a stopwatch or metronome to ensure all three are exactly the same length. Self-Correction Log: Recite Surah Ash-Shams. Listen to the recording and write down every time you felt your Makhraj was slightly “off center.” Texture Analysis: Describe the difference in “sound texture” between a Ghunnah made with a blocked nose vs. a clear one.

Assignment – Lesson 2: Advanced Characteristics (Sifat)

Assignments (5 Tasks – 4 Marks Each) Opposite Pair Chart: Create a table listing the 5 pairs of opposite Sifat and assign 2 letters to each side of the pair. The “Lin” Timing Drill: Record yourself reciting a verse with many “Middle Ground” letters (e.g., ‘Ayn and Lam). Ensure the sound doesn’t “cut off” too quickly or “drag” too long. Heavy-Light-Heavy: Practice words like Ramazan or Istrat where a heavy letter is sandwiched between light ones (or vice versa). Ensure the “Tarqeeq” (lightness) is preserved perfectly. Sifat of Silence: Record the letters Kaf and Taa with a Sukun. You must hear the “breath” (Hams) at the end. Verse Analysis: Take Ayatul Kursi and identify the Sifat of the first letter of every word.

Assignment – Lesson 1: Precision in Articulation

Assignments (5 Tasks – 4 Marks Each) Makhraj Mapping: Draw or label a diagram of the 5 main areas of the mouth and list which letters belong to each specific sub-exit. Slow-Motion Drill: Record yourself pronouncing the “Heavy Trio” (Khaa, Saad, Daad) followed by their light counterparts (Ha, Seen, Dal). Exaggerate the movement to ensure the back of the tongue is rising for the heavy ones. The Throat Challenge: Record 10 repetitions of ‘Ayn and Ha (middle throat) back-to-back. Ensure the “compression” is audible and distinct. Pressure Test: Recite Surah Al-Fatiha focusing entirely on the “contact pressure.” Note any letters where your tongue felt “heavy” or “clumsy.” Peer Observation: Listen to a fellow student or a provided recording and identify which specific Makhraj was missed in a provided word (e.g., a Qaaf sounding like a Kaaf).

Assignments – Lesson 2: The Heart of the Qari

Assignments (5 Tasks – 4 Marks Each) Sahabi Research: Choose one companion (e.g., Ubayy ibn Ka’b or Zayd ibn Thabit). Write 200 words on their role in preserving the Qur’an. Etiquette Checklist: Create a “Daily Adab Checklist” for your recitation sessions, including 3 inward and 3 outward etiquettes. Sincerity Reflection: Write a private reflection on how you handle praise regarding your voice and how you can guard your Ikhlas. Tadabbur Exercise: Select one verse. Record yourself reciting it three times, each time trying to change your vocal “mood” to match the meaning of the words. Sanad Visualization: Draw or map out the “Chain of Transmission” from Jibreel (AS) to your current teacher.

Assignments – Lesson 1: Introduction to Advanced Tilawah

Assignments (5 Tasks – 4 Marks Each) Intent Audit: Write a 300-word “Statement of Intent.” Why do you want to master the Art of Tilawah specifically, rather than just the rules? Terminology Map: Define Tilawah, Tarteel, and Tajweed. Explain in your own words how they differ from each other. Vocal Observation: Listen to a 2-minute clip of a master Qari (e.g., Al-Hussary). List 3 things you hear that are “Artistic” rather than just “Technical.” Goal Setting: Identify 3 “mechanical” rules you still struggle with. Draft a 14-day plan to move these from your conscious mind to your muscle memory. Comparative Analysis: Record yourself reciting Surah Al-Fatiha twice. The first time, focus only on rules. The second time, focus on “Art” (flow and feeling). Write a brief note on the difference in your own experience.
